I want to plug my USB / MIDI keyboard into my iPod touch with the Apple camera dongle, will that work?
No. The camera dongle only works with the iPad and will not work with your iPod touch or your iPhone. It’s not a professional or even semi-professional approach. But awareness to using your iPad for music production is a good thing, but the limitations of the dongle approach are great. Over one-hundred times faster. Comparing apples to apples, iConnectMIDI uses full speed USB at twelve megabits per second. The MIDI Mobilizer uses serial communications at only 57,600 bits per second. Even accounting USB overhead, iConnectMIDI is a professional standard. I don’t have a iPad or iPhone, can I still use iConnectMIDI? Absolutely, iConnectMIDI is capable of operation stand alone MIDI interface, just going from MIDI to USB systems without a computer is essential in the studio all the time.
