I want to plug my USB / MIDI keyboard into my iPod touch with the Apple camera dongle, will that work?

No. The camera dongle only works with the iPad and will not work with your iPod touch or your iPhone. It’s not a professional or even semi-professional approach. But awareness to using your iPad for music production is a good thing, but the limitations of the dongle approach are great.

The other thing about the dongle is that any keyboard that gets power from USB will fail to work.

I have three MIDI keyboards and a MIDI guitar - can I use iConnectMIDI with my iPad?

Using standard USB hubs, iConnectMIDI can connect up to eight USB devices. All of these devices can work with your iPad at the same time, with professional level performance. iConnectivity is setting the professional standard of acceptability for latency.

Also, the two MIDI DIN ports support the standard 16 channels each for chained MIDI devices.

Why would I buy iConnectMIDI?

You own an iPod touch, iPad or iPhone and you own a MIDI keyboard, guitar, drums - you want to create or play music - you want to have fun - iConnectMIDI takes the confusion out of connecting your gear and honestly, it is the best and only professional product in the market.

How much faster is iConnectMIDI than the MIDI Mobilizer?

Over one-hundred times faster. Comparing apples to apples, iConnectMIDI uses full speed USB at twelve megabits per second. The MIDI Mobilizer uses serial communications at only 57,600 bits per second. Even accounting USB overhead, iConnectMIDI is a professional standard.

More importanly, iConnectMIDI is taking advantage of the new CoreMIDI framework introduced in iOS 4.2 - which removes all of the normal communication overhead as well as optimizes the iOS device communications with hardware MIDI connectivity. iOS with CoreMIDI is extremely fast with no perceivable latency.

I don’t have a iPad or iPhone, can I still use iConnectMIDI?

Absolutely, iConnectMIDI is capable of operation stand alone MIDI interface, just going from MIDI to USB systems without a computer is essential in the studio all the time. Why consume a laptop for an easy task for iConnectMIDI. The routing configuration can be saved to internal memory which is retained over power cycles, all without a computer in the chain.

To be clear, iConnectMIDI operates as a standard MIDI interface which you can use in place of or to enhance your current MIDI gear setup with your Mac or PC too.

Can I use the iConnectMIDI in my DMX lighting system?

iConnectivity is working to release a DMX accessory that will provide the appropriate connections for your DMX lighting and control systems. The iConnectMIDI box will then translate the MIDI messages through to the DMX messages - thus iOS applications can use CoreMIDI to communicate with DMX systems.
